A studio site in three languages
What you need
We needed a site the studio could run without a developer, and that does not fall apart when somebody edits a sentence: three languages, work, questions, enquiries. And we needed it quickly — for showing, not for someday.
What we did
The language is in the address rather than in a cookie, so a link can be forwarded and opens where the sender was. Each language is its own post, linked to the other translations: a page has its own address in every language, and an empty field is not filled in from another language — the editor sees the gap, not the visitor. An enquiry is written to the database first and posted second — mail can fail, and an enquiry must not vanish with it. Building, seeding and checking the live pages run in GitHub Actions, and the check looks at what is on the page rather than at the status code.
Outcome
The site is run from the admin in three languages, and every deploy checks that the pages serve what they are supposed to.
